What We Do

Kiwanis Flag Project

Members of the Club work throughout the spring, summer, and fall to raise American Flags at participating local businesses. The appearance of these flags not only creates an impressive show of patriotism in our community, but also raises funds for the children in our community. Local sports teams and other volunteers help Kiwanis make this project possible.

Terrific Kids & Terrific Teens

Terrific Kids and Terrific Teens awards are given to students each school year to recognize and encourage the development of good character. TERRIFIC stands for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable.

Kids are given a congratulations and presented with a certificate, pencil, and sticker. Photographs are posted online and provided to local newspapers.

Our volunteers distribute these awards once per week to students at North Ohio Elementary, South Maple Elementary, Vanderbilt, Gaylord High School, and Johannesburg.

Kiwanis Dime Toss at Gaylord Alpenfest

Every July, the Kiwanis Club of Gaylord holds its annual dime toss fundraiser in the Alpenstraus at the Gaylord Alpenfest. This family tradition is a fundraiser for Kiwanis’s other programs.

Toss a dime into a glass, and you get to keep the glass (and anything inside it)! The dime goes to help Kiwanis support kids. Everybody wins!

Inchy’s Bookworm Vending Machines

These vending machines are stocked with kid books and placed at the Johannesburg, North Ohio and South Maple elementary schools!

The Kiwanis Club of Gaylord prepares baskets of donated food items to families in need every Christmas. This is done with the help of volunteers from across the community.
